Position: Part-Time Creative Educator / Mentor
Location: Calabasas, California
Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 4–5 hours per day (part-time, potential to expand to full-time)
Start Date: ASAP
Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience
About the Role
A private family in Calabasas is seeking a dynamic, creative, and experienced educator to provide additional learning and creative support for a bright, curious 12-year-old student who already works full-time with a private teacher. The ideal candidate will collaborate with the existing educator to reinforce academic goals, nurture creativity, and help the student develop and bring to life their original ideas and projects.
In addition to supporting the 12-year-old, this person will occasionally engage with the family’s younger children, offering educational or creative activities as needed. This position is perfect for an educator who thrives in a nontraditional, flexible learning environment and values curiosity-driven, hands-on learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-on-one academic and creative support to a 12-year-old learner, complementing their current instruction.
Collaborate with the full-time private teacher to ensure a consistent and enriching educational experience.
Guide the student in developing creative ideas and projects — from brainstorming and research to presentation or implementation.
Foster confidence, curiosity, and independent thinking through personalized, experiential learning.
Occasionally assist with the family’s younger children, providing light educational or enrichment support.
Create engaging, innovative lessons or activities that connect learning with real-world experiences.
Maintain flexibility and professionalism in a home-based, private learning environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Teaching experience (elementary or middle school level preferred).
Strong background or interest in creative, project-based, or experiential learning methods.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Ability to adapt to a nontraditional educational setting and tailor lessons to individual learning styles.
Energetic, imaginative, and patient — with a genuine passion for mentoring young learners.
Ideal Candidate
A teacher or mentor who enjoys thinking outside the box and making learning exciting and meaningful.
Comfortable working in partnership with another educator and adapting to the needs of a family environment.
Someone who sees creativity, exploration, and curiosity as essential parts of a child’s education.
